Being as passionate about the mental health space as I am, I ventured off and wanted a solution to my problem. What’s my problem? These unwanted feelings I have. Not knowing really what to do in a certain situation due to unfamiliarity. Well the good news is I found a solution that has been around for hundreds of years and that’s called having social connections. So the question was… how do I make this solution happen? And that’s where we decided on creating a mobile app that brings everyday people together to talk and share their experiences to tackle the unfamiliar and unknown.
Now how does meeting the right person shape one’s business? Well I had the chance to meet this amazing individual over some coffee and we talked for numerous hours about everything and anything.
The individual was telling me how they recently got out of a relationship due to their significant other not taking mental health as well as their mental health seriously.
I was just astonished, fascinated and perplexed by all this. Here I am, a person who is passionate about the mental health space hearing a story about this.
It was ill inspiring to say the least. This person expressed passion with immense interest in the mental health space. Yet at the same time they were challenging my beliefs and values.
By doing all that, they really made me ponder on what Squish means to someone and how it can truly shape their life.
That was just moving to hear. This person was just one of the many stories I’ve heard about how Squish will directly impact their life, the only difference was the passion. Intrinsic motivation is what this person embodied.
That’s exactly the kind of people we are looking for at Squish. People that are not only passionate about the mental health care space but also intrinsically motivated.
At the end of the day, knowing that you are indirectly improving the quality of someone’s life with something you’ve created is quite motivating.
You will hear many no’s through your life. Many rejection. But at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how many times you get knocked down it matters that you get back up and keep fighting. Having the resilience and the persistence to keep fighting is what sets the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.
At the end of the day all it really takes is just one yes – one yes to get what you need. That meeting I had, I wanted to hear their story and they obliged. That one yes – shaped my business by reinforcing my beliefs that people do truly care and want to intrinsically help us. Proving the doubts about myself to be wrong, that it’s not all about extrinsic gain.
Part of my doubts stemmed from this being my first real social action start up. Knowing that we see money as just a tool to affect real change throughout the world, not to just amass wealth.
Keep up to date with what we are doing on LinkedIn, Instagram, and on Facebook!
